Workshop for Teens: Comic Book Storytelling (Some Illustration too!)
July 14 @ 9:00 AM - July 18 @ 12:00 PM

Calling all Super-Fans! If you love graphic novels or comic books, you will enjoy the character creation and strange new world-building that are at the heart of this Summer Academy workshop at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts.Β The workshop is taught by Literary Arts teacher and graphic novelist Scott Beatty, who has authored hundreds of adventures for many of comicsβ most iconic characters including Batman and Robin tales for DC Comics, as well as The Phantom, Buck Rogers, and Sherlock Holmes for Dynamite Entertainment. Beatty has also contributed comic book stories to IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and Crossgen Comics. Β Youβll learn about the history of comic books, how graphic novels are produced, and then youβll create the secret origin of your own character and chronicle their first adventure in script and art! Students will get to showcase their creations during a short βtalk-backβ session, pitching their work just like comics pros, with parents and families on the final day of class! Β This yearβs session will also include some illustration instruction.Β Open to ages 12-17.Β Session runs July 14-18, 9 AM-12 PM Daily.
This workshop is part of the school’s Summer Academy, a program of arts enrichment workshops for kids and teens that is open to the community.Β The program operates as a fundraiser for the school.
