Art in Dialogue: Muriel Hasbun – Constructing Identity

March 19 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

hasbun-todaslossantos-1995-1996

Muriel Hasbun’s talk will address how she has constructed her sense of identity through her multimedia work, and created community spaces for individuals to inscribe their migration stories and memories of home.  A descendant of Salvadoran and Palestinian Christians on her paternal side and Polish and French Jews on her maternal side, Hasbun grew up in El Salvador. She left El Salvador at the beginning of the civil war, and eventually settled in Washington, DC, where she has worked as an artist and professor of photography for 35 years. Her work delves into themes of home and displacement, hybridity, loss, and intergenerational trauma.

Lecture offered in the context of Assistant Prof. Florencia San Martín’s course Latin American Art in partnership with the Lehigh Latin American and Latino Studies department.
