Who We Are

Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley (HCLV) is a 501(c)3 organization that empowers low-income individuals living in South Bethlehem and throughout Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Its mission is to improve the quality of lives of families (Hispanic and non-Hispanic) by empowering them to become more self-sufficient while promoting an intercultural understanding in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. At HCLV, we believe in a community that embraces the economic opportunity for all and sees its cultural diversity as a foundation for building a stronger society and a more vibrant economy. We also believe at the heart of change is the individual’s desire and willingness to pursue a path toward their own independence and self-sufficiency.

Formerly known as the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley, the organization provided Spanish-speaking newcomers to the Lehigh Valley a resource where they could receive assistance to attain employment, learn English and access community resources.  Today, Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley focuses all programming on empowering those served, in particular those of Hispanic origin, to become independent and self-sufficient so they can be fully integrated into the community thus strengthening the quality of life for all residents of the City of Bethlehem and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Through its continuum of services, Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley positively supports adults and families during crisis, assists adults to become self-sufficient, and encourages seniors to stay active and healthy. HCLV is located on the Southside of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and serves residents from throughout the entire Lehigh Valley, with a majority of clients residing in the City of Bethlehem and Northampton County.

The SouthSide Arts District, an initiative of the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation, is a downtown revitalization program that works to improve the economic conditions for businesses and institutions located in the core business district of South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Formally organized in 2015 in partnership with Lehigh University and the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation, the SouthSide Arts District follows the nationally recognized Main Street Four-Point Approach from the National Main Street Program, focused on the developing committees of volunteers committed to the Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Vitality of South Bethlehem.

The Design committee’s job is to create streetscape improvement projects. Their goal is to create a beautiful exterior to the SouthSide Arts District – and what better way to do it, than through art. Each year, they work tirelessly to create new public art opportunities for artists and strive to add new and innovative public artworks to our Urban Arts Trail. This project is one of those initiatives they plan to add to the trail and celebrate at the October First Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Project Design:

The Hispanic Center would like to commission an artist to design a mural to bring color to this wall.  It faces the courtyard that serves as the entrance to the building that houses our Senior Center and Food Pantry.  Through this mural, we would like to celebrate the rich history and diversity of our Southside Bethlehem Latino community.

The mural would be painted on 2 Alumilite panels, each 5’ x 10’ for a total of 10’ x 20’.

Community input was sought regarding the mural design.  Below, is a summary of that input.
