The Holidays Are Over – Hello Winter

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The holidays are over. It builds in Bethlehem. It’s huge….and then it’s gone. It starts in September when my pumpkin spice alarm clock goes off and before I know it I’m at PEEPSFest watching a 400 pound PEEPS Chick drop wondering what happened to the last four months. And then it hits me – the cold, dark, hand of winter is upon us. Take down the Christmas tree, put away your Moravian candles, that lonely, sundown at 4:30pm, blackhole of winter is here and all you have are your yoga pants and Netflix to keep you company, until you emerge in the Spring for Chili on the SouthSide.

One of my favorite comedians John Mulaney said it best, “Percentage-wise, it is 100% easier not to do things than to do them.“ And winter is the perfect excuse to stay inside and do just that. But I must protest – no exclaim – do not do this. You deserve more than your couch and Chinese take-out until April! Prepare and embrace the chill! Here’s a few ideas to get you out of your post-holiday funk and start 2020 with a bam!

Take yourself out to breakfast or brunch! Forget dinner – South Bethlehem has incredible breakfast or brunch spots sure to satisfy any palette. My personal favorites are Roasted’s Oreo French Toast, Alexandra’s Bistro’s Garden Omelette or Café the Lodge’s Feta Sun Dried Tomato Scrambled Eggs. But don’t take my word for it – visit any of these locations for a delish breakfast menu:

El Jefe’s Taqueria

Deja Brew

The Goose

Johnny’s Bagels

LIT Roastery & Bakeshop

Playa Bowls Lehigh

Starbucks

If breakfast isn’t your thing – maybe take in a bit of history. Visit the National Museum of Industrial History – home to exciting exhibits, engaging programs, amazing history, and located in a 100-year-old former Bethlehem Steel facility!  Or perhaps you’re in a creative mood – get those ideal hands moving at the Banana Factory. They offer multiple classes for adults and children including jewelry making, glass blowing and more. Maybe you want to sit back and be entertained? No problem! Walk to the Steel Stacks ArtsQuest Center and take in a film, a musician or comedy show! Other hot spots to sit back and enjoy a show:

Godfrey Daniels

Wind Creek Resort & Casino

Zoellner Arts Center

And if nothing, absolutely nothing in this blog has appealed to you and you are just perfectly content with hibernating then at least GrubHub yourself something tasty from Lehigh Pizza, La Lupita, General Zapata or SouthSide 313. And then call A List Salon or Apotheca and book yourself a spa and hair treatment – we need to get you out of the house – they’ll help you look less like a sleepy bear and more human. Spring is a long ways away my friend. Get up!
