The Importance of Curbside

I can’t imagine Bethlehem without the SouthSide. I remember when I was in college, our Saturday night was always McGrady’s or the Tally Ho. Dressing up and going out to eat at the latest restaurant, shopping at Cleo’s and indulging in Tallarico’s Chocolates.

I can’t imagine Bethlehem without Main Street. Celebrating Christmas with friends at the Hotel B, grabbing a beer at the BrewWorks or a fancy dinner at the Apollo. I remember when the Twisted Olive was the Starfish. My absolute favorite thing to get there was the salmon.

And now here we are. Deep in COVID country – coming in, coming out, maybe coming out, nope coming back in. Restaurants can only operate at 25% capacity, and folks are a little nervous shopping retail. But what would you do if Urbano closed? How would you feel if Bonn was gone? Goodbye Zest bar+grille. No more Apotheca Salon & Boutique. Our funky, historic, lovable personality of a town would be erased.

So how can you save the day? How can you be a hero to these businesses? Order to go. Order curbside pick-up as much as you can! You deserve to not cook, and you definitely deserve those new shoes. Treat yourself, treat your mom and buy her a gift card to Social Still. And if you can do this, as much as you used to before we landed in COVID Land, you will in fact save the proverbial day. We need you, now more than ever. Call ahead and order over the phone, reserve your pick-up time for a contactless delivery! Cocktails, entrees and retail items are all available for curbside pick-up to help you get what you need to enjoy safely at home.

And if you are in the mood to get out of the house, call ahead and reserve your table and time to visit your favorite shop, bar, or restaurant. Remember to wear your mask, covering both your nose and mouth, and practice social distancing. Reserving your time guarantees you and the merchant know what to expect to ensure your safety.

Things are changing fast, sometimes weekly. Stay up to date, and remember to be kind and patient. We are all navigating this new world together. Thank you for your support of the SouthSide Arts District! We can’t wait to see you.

Sincerely,

Missy Hartney
Downtown Manager
