The SouthSide Arts District (SSAD) is a downtown revitalization program that works to improve economic conditions for businesses and institutions located in the core business district of south Bethlehem, PA. The SSAD was formally organized in 2015 as an initiative of the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO), joining several other similarly organized programs including Bethlehem’s Keystone Innovation Zone, Pi: Partnership for Innovation business incubator, and the SouthSide Ambassadors program. SSAD staff and volunteers are focused on the four points of Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality.

The role of the Advisory Committee is to help establish and advocate the SouthSide Arts District’s mission and goals, to advise and support the staff and volunteer committees, and to provide strategic leadership in regard to the organization’s long-term financial sustainability. The Advisory Committee does not have formal authority to govern the organization. Rather, it serves to make recommendations to the staff and committees, as well as to provide key information and materials as needed to the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation Board. The Advisory Committee also plays an important public relations role and fundraising role, providing staff with a strategic-level perspective on programmatic issues.

The role of the Promotions Committee is to convey a positive image of the district and to encourage consumers and investors to live, work, shop, play and invest in the arts district.  This committee also plans special events and retail promotional events that attract people to the district.
